So...to give you the back story. My dad is the lone republican from a family of self proclaimed democrats. If you try to make him use logic for his political leanings you realize that he's secretly a democrat and just doesn't know it. BUT, my dad is not the point of this "o_O" moment. I was talking to my aunt today. She's one of the self proclaimed democrats. And she said the following "I hate the ACLU. I think it's the worst thing to ever happen to America."

I had no response.

On a slightly less mind boggling note....Alison Krauss and Robert Plant made a collaborative album...and if Trampled Rose is any indication, the rest of the album (Raising Sand) should be FANTASTIC!!

go to the fucking dentist regularly and get regular fucking checkups!!!!!!!!

I had a root canal in november...and then a crown lengthening procedure...and then had to wear a temporary crown for a few weeks and FINALLY got a permanent crown put in last week....

Only to find out this week that i have to have TWO MORE root canals with TWO more crown lengthening procedures....etc...

Grand total after it's all done (with insurance covering a lot of it), 3000.00 out of pocket...

All this could have been prevented had I not been pathologically afraid of the dentist and thus never went until I had to...

I'm gonna go be over the top morbid and grumpy and listen to this..

In Law School you have homework for orientation....I'm just saying is all....

I would like to point out that more people celebrate Winter Solstice than celebrate Christmas...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winter_solstice

I'm just saying...I'm gonna tell everyone to dance the Horo and watch out for the Black God.... tee hee

They have an episode coming up in season 4...entitled....wait for it... "Criss Angel is a Douche Bag"..... ROFL!!!

Ok...so here's the deal. I'm a failed catholic. So...I DO celebrate christmas. That being said, my aunt is Jewish and one of my best friends married a Jewish boy. So I can be down with the Chanukah (my aunt assures me it is okay to spell it that way)...in all fairness, I can be down with Kwanzaa, Winter Solstice, Michaelmas, Boxing Day, Krampus, Bodhi Day, Eid al-Adha...etc.

At my place of work...it looks like santa claus (or sinter klaus) threw up all over the place. I never noticed how tacky some christmas decorations are.

I made a comment to one of my co-workers that it seemed kind of insensitive to have all this Christmas stuff up if not everyone celebrates christmas. I cannot remember if I was given the chance to say it might be nice to put up some stuff from the other (read non-christian) holidays...I was going to say it anyways. In any case, she became MORTALLY OFFENDED. Like I was trying to steal Christmas...she paused long enough to ask if I was christian and celebrated christmas....and once she received an affirmative...proceeded with her rant that ended with "tough, I have no sympathy, they can just put up with it."

all righty then.... o_O

I just couldn't find a pattern that I loved so I messed with puff stitches until I figured out my own.

Size made: About the size of a penny.

Materials Needed:

3.25 mm crochet hook

DMC 6 strand embroidery floss. I used #435 (very light brown)

Directions:
With crochet hook and floss, CH 2

1. SC 5 in second CH from hook, DO NOT SLIP STITCH TO JOIN (RS)

2. Turn (you are now looking at the WS), SL ST into first SC. YO, put hook through same SC and YO, pull through the stitch. You will now have 3 loops on your hook. (YO, put hook through same SC, YO, Pull through the stitch) 4 more times until you have 11 loops on your hook. YO and pull through all eleven loops. SL ST in the same SC.

3-6. Repeat step 2 in each SC around to make a total of 5 puff petals.

7. SL ST into the first SL ST of the flower.

8. Tie off and weave the end clock wise through the slip stitches to help maintain its proper shape.

You might consider leaving a long tail to attach it to something. Weave in any ends you won't be using. Turn flower back around to the RS. Attach the flower to whatever you wish. You could try using a sparkly bead as a center piece for the flower. Just run thread through the bead and then run both ends of the thread through the center of the flower before using the thread to sew the flower on to whatever you're making.

Work Friendly Ear Cozy (make 2)

NOTE: I needed an ear cozy that could be worn discreetly at work and that did not affect my hearing (thus the hole).

Materials Needed:

Flesh colored or hair colored worsted weight yarn. I used Caron Simply Soft Heather in Truffle Heather
4 mm crochet hook
Optional: 3.5 mm steel crochet hook for when it becomes difficult to SL ST over previous SL STs

Directions:

With chosen yarn and 4 mm crochet hook, Ch 9
1. SC in second CH from hook and all the way across (8 sts)
2. Turn, CH 1, SC in first stitch, SC in next ST, CH 6, skip the next 4 stitches, SC in next stitch, SC in last stitch
3. Turn, CH 1, Sc in first stitch, SC in next ST, 8 HDC in CH 6 space, SC in next stitch, SC in last stitch
*You will begin to work in rounds here*
4. Turn, CH 1, SC in next 12 stitches and continue around the side of the piece (i.e. do not turn), 2 SC in side of rows 2 and 3, SL ST in the back loop of the 8 stitches from row 1, 2 SC in the side of rows 2 and 3, join with a SL ST to first SC of this round.
5. Ch 1, sc in next 11 stitches, HDC in next 3 stitches, SL ST in next 8 SL STs, SC in next stitch, SC in next stitch, do not join at end of round but continue to work in rounds.
6. SC in next 14 stitches, SL ST in next 8 SL STs, SC in next 2 stitches, do not join
7. SC in first 4 stitches, 2scTOG, 2scTOG, SC in next 6 stitches, SL ST in next 8 SL STs, SC in next 2 stitches, do not join
8. SC in next 12 stitches, SL ST in next 8 SL STs, SC in next 2 stitches, Join with a SL ST to the first SC of this round and tie off.
Weave in ends.

NOTE: I found that you have to press the edge of the cozy around the back of your ear to fit it to your ear and make it grasp your ear properly.

SIZE NOTE: Apparently I have dainty ears. This worked out to be 2.75 inches long and 1.75 inches wide. To change the sizing, I recommend using a larger hook and/or thicker yarn. Another option is to add stitches to the beginning chain and keep track of where to change the stitch counts thereafter.

ERRATA:
I realized that I forgot to add a sentence when I was typing this up. To make the ear cozy slightly more shaped for the right ear you need to change row 5 just slightly.

FOR RIGHT EAR:
5. Ch 1, HDC in first stitch, sc in next 13 stitches, SL ST in next 8 SL STs, HDC in next stitch, HDC in next stitch, do not join at end of round but continue to work in rounds.

If the dentist ever uses the words "crown lengthening procedure" the week before thanksgiving....make like an atom and split! Matter of fact, regardless of the time of year...if he uses the words "crown lengthening procedure"...maybe consider punching him.

what I wouldn't give for a corn nut right now....

What You should be Doing:
Work:

A worldwide slave labour organisation used to control modern man and prevent independant thought from occuring in any form. This is the reason it's much harder to make anything of yourself working in creative arts, such as acting and singing - the government sees anyone more popular than them as a threat to their power. It is also an ingenious creation to make placebos such as computers and photocopiers look important to our way of life. Some may argue that the workplace is desigend to build character and learn about teamwork...others prefer to think of it as the perfect place to practise your aiming skills as you throw ball after ball of scrunched up paper into the bin in the corner, then make a little competition out of it with fellow colleagues.
You are here to work, not to have fun!

EskiHo [es-kuh-Hoh]:
One who wears next to nothing when it's cold but still manages to don UGG boots.

Example: One who, when it is cold, wears a teeny tiny tank dress, but still wears UGG boots for warmth.

Alternate Definition:
One who wears a scarf, gloves, and UGG boots, while still wearing a mini skirt and low cut top.

Where they can be found:
Southern California

Sorry...I was out walking around. It's cold enough that I'm wearing a heavy jacket over my already layered clothing. Keep in mind...I don't get cold...I'll still be hot when all my friends are cold. This girl was walking by wearing a teeny tiny tank dress and knee high UGG boots. I really wanted to say "girl, if it's cold enough to wear ugg boots, it's cold enough to cover up." FURTHER DISCLAIMER: I don't hate on the ugg boots. In fact I think the boots with the fur (regardless of brand name) are very cute. I have a pair of my own. But you can be sure that if you catch me wearing them, I'm wearing either a long shirt, long pants or both. :-)

*here ends my snark for the day*
